Week 9, Term 2

Merit Award Winners
Congratulations to Nathanael and Bentley who received a Merit Award for their outstanding achievements and behaviour.  It has been fantastic to see their resilience and positivity towards their learning. They continually demonstrate respect and remain focused in the classroom. I look forward to handing out more in the future, and encourage the students to always strive for excellence in their learning and classroom behaviour.

Homework
Just a reminder that students are encouraged to continue working in their homework folders each week, and to bring their folder to school each day. This will ensure that they maintain a routine and remember to bring them to school every Monday when we hand out the new homework set. It has been great to see the amount of students completing their homework each week!

Key Links Readers
Key Links Readers have now begun to be taken home as part of the student’s nightly reading. Please encourage your child to read to you for 10-15 minutes each night, focusing on volume, expression and fluency. Also, please encourage them to bring their readers to school every day, to ensure they are returned on a Monday.

Australian Mathematics Competition
Recently a letter was handed out explaining the upcoming Mathematics Competition, to be held between Thursday, 30 July – Thursday, 6 August this year. This is not compulsory, however, those students who are interested must return the completed slip with the enclosed payment by Wednesday, 1 July.

Hands-on Mathematics
Recently the students have been using real world activities to help strengthen their knowledge of measurement. One example of this was the use of various types of measuring containers to measure and compare volumes of water, in litres and milliltres. The students had lots of fun pouring and emptying different volumes of water and comparing the various amounts. Using real world materials is such a great way of introducing and discussing mathematical concepts, and I encourage them to continue this at home.

WA Day Homework Task

Hi everyone,

To celebrate WA Day, for this week's homework the students have been asked to create a poster on one of the following Western Australia areas. I have provided them with a coloured A3 piece of paper to create a research poster about their chosen area.

Here are some tips/questions they can use to help them:

  • Locate the region on a map.
  • Find the towns found within this region .
  • What is it recognised for? (gorges, waterfalls, wildlife).
  • Are there any interesting famous landmarks found in this region? Have you been to any?
  • What do they produce?
  • What is tourism like?

This is due next Monday 8th June.

Thanks!
