Welcome to Term Two

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Term Two!! I sincerely hope that everyone had an excellent holiday with their children, it was lovely to hear about all the wonderful things the students got up to. This Term is looking to be a very exciting and busy one. I will make sure to keep you up to date with important dates and events happening around the class and school.

Talk homework for this week has just been put up under the 'Talk Homework' section of the blog. Please encourage your child to discuss the prompt with you and write down ideas, ready for writing on Thursday. English and Maths homework has also been handed out, and I encourage the students to bring their book in every day, and to be reading to you every night!

If there are any questions or concerns, please come in to see me after school or set up a meeting. I hope you all enjoy this Term as much as the students will!

All About Me Presentation

Dear Parents,

In Week 5, your child will be asked to present a 2 - 3 minute speech all about themselves, as part of our Speaking and Listening program. Our class presentations will start on the Monday of Week 5.

I will be assessing them on their volume, speed, voice, body language, eye contact and their content. Please see the prompt below as a guide. They may also choose to create a poster or PowerPoint but this is not compulsory.

Please see the below timetable for your child’s scheduled speech.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Welcome 2021

Welcome everyone!

It was fantastic to see all the parents at last night's information night. The students have all settled in well and already showing me amazing work. I will make sure to keep you updated on this blog with important issues, TALK homework and exciting news to share.

Typing club and other online resources are currently under the 'Skills Practice' tab on the homepage. Typing club is currently being set up, and I will let the students know when this will be available.

This week's TALK homework has been put up for the students to share their ideas before they begin writing on Thursday.

Thanks,

Mr Lockyer

Week 1, Term 4

 Preparing for Year 4

Being the final term of Year 3, Room 15 will be focusing on preparing students as they transition into Year 4 next year. It has been great to see the level of enthusiasm towards demonstrating appropriate behaviour, as well as a willingness to achieve and take pride in their learning. The following weeks will be aimed at ensuring that students are achieving their best, and become excited for what adventures will take place for them next year.

Swimming Lessons

This term, our swimming lessons will take place during week 9 and 10. A letter will be sent out shortly explaining any key details and information which will need to be filled out. This should be a very exciting and useful time for the students to learn key water safety and swimming skills essential for life.

Super Scientist

Week 5 will see the students of Room 15 deliver their Super Scientist presentations. I am looking forward to hearing about all the unique science topics! Please encourage your child to practise at home to become more confident with presenting. Remember, the students are encouraged to not only present us with amazing information, but to also tell us why their topic is so unique and special! For those who may have misplaced the note, here are the details below:

They are required to research and present their information to the class in a short presentation (2 to 5 minutes). Students are allowed to use resources such as posters, charts, props and PowerPoint to support their presentation.

Students are encouraged to explore and explain why their topic is interesting and unique, rather than simply stating facts. They are expected to reword information they find, demonstrating a deeper understanding of their topic. Students are encouraged to rehearse their presentations so that they feel confident.

Week 9, Term 3

Spelling Bee Contestants

Big congratulations must be made for all our Room 15 Spelling Bee contestants! Well done to Zoe, Ritaaz, Mutsa, Ishaal, Anjana, James, Arjun, Fiona, Thanuja and Masih who all displayed courage and the willingness to try something new. They all did extremely well. We would especially like to congratulate Anjana for making it into the Finals! That is an outstanding achievement, our entire class are so proud of her efforts.

Merit Award Winners

Congratulations to Fiona and Amber on their recent Merit Awards. Both of these girls have displayed an eagerness to succeed and always give their best in everything they do. It is always fantastic to see students who want to achieve and present themselves as role models for their peers and the school. I encourage all students to strive for excellence!

Parent/Teacher Interviews

I am looking forward to meeting with all the parents next week to discuss their child’s achievements. Please make sure you are prompt before your scheduled meeting time to ensure a smooth afternoon. It has been great to see each individual student’s progress throughout the year and I will also be looking forward to discussing student goals for the rest of the school year.

Humphreys Dance School Notes

Just a reminder for parents to please sign and return dancing slips and payments before the end of the term. This is a great opportunity for the students to learn fun and engaging dance skills, as well as the opportunity to do something fun!

Week 4, Term 3

Student Councillors

Congratulations to Zoe and Masih who have been chosen as our class’ Student Councillors for Semester Two. They have been chosen for their continuous leadership, responsibility and hard work ethic. Already, we have seen an outstanding job around the class and school since this announcement. I look forward to working with Zoe and Masih throughout the semester.

Homework

Just a reminder that students are encouraged to continue working in their homework folders each week, and to bring their folder to school each day. This will ensure that they maintain a routine and remember them for each Monday when we hand out the new homework set. It has been great to see the number of students completing their homework each week!

Week Four Assembly

We are looking forward to seeing all the parents on Friday as we host this week’s Senior Assembly alongside rooms 14 and 23. Please encourage your children to come dressed as a ‘messy teacher’. For example, they may come in a typical teacher outfit with messy hair, untucked shirt etc. Also, we are looking forward to showing the parents our ‘WOW writing’ we have been producing. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

NAPLAN School Testing

This week our Year Three students will be striving as we undertake mock NAPLAN tests. This is not part of the official NAPLAN testing which was cancelled due to COVID-19. However, we are still encouraging the students to endeavor towards excellence and try their best throughout this time.
